Sawtooth Salmon Festival

DATE: August 22 - 23, 2014

LOCATION: Stanley Museum, Highway 75 North

The Sawtooth Salmon Festival will be held at the Stanley Interpretive and Historical Association museum grounds and will open with a presentation of Wilderness & Salmon: The Habitat and the Fish by author Bert Bowler at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. There will also be a documentary film entitled DamNation at the Redfish Center at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2014. This film will also be shown at the Stanley Community Center at 8 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014. Main festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m on Saturday, August 23, 2014.

Join educational tours to witness the miracle of wild salmon spawning in the streams of their birth. Then kick back and have fun perusing information and vendor booths and listening to live music. John Alonge returns for his 4th Sunday, August 24 and Wednesday, August 27, 2014 – Sip and Chat on the Porch with John prior to dinner (5:30pm), as you savor some of your and John’s favorite wines.

Friday, August 29, 2014 – The Wine Weekend kicks off with a complimentary pre-dinner (5:30pm)Tasting
and Talk, “Red, White and Pink: The Anatomy of Wine”.

Saturday, August 30, 2014 – John will preside over a Beer Tasting, prior to and throughout dinner, with brews chosen to compliment perfectly the Southwest Fajita Grill dishes. Fee for participation in the tasting of 5 three-ounce pours, $20 per person.

Sunday, August 31, 2014 – Five wines will be paired to the multi-course dinner in the Lodge dining room, with John pouring and providing tasting tips. Fee for participation in the wine tasting of 5 two-ounce pours, $30 per person.

Plein Air Painters of Idaho Art Paint Out and Sale at Redfish Lake

The Plein Air Painters of Idaho will hold their annual Art Paint Out and Sale. Artists will arrive on September 2, 2014 and will begin in earnest on September 3, 2014. The event will continue through the September 4 and September 5, 2014, with painting on display all three days and demonstrations every day. There will be a reception with appetizers, wine and paintings September 5, 2014, 5:00pm. Jed Steele will be bringing his Steele wines to Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch to pair with guests’ dinner selections on September 5, 6, 7, 2014.

Friday, September 5, 2014 – Jed will choose one of his favorite wine topics to speak about during appetizers, with a complimentary tasting of matched Steele wines.

Saturday, September 6, 2014 – Jed will preside over a tasting of four Steele wines he has chosen to compliment the evening’s western BBQ menu. Fee for participation in the tastings.

Sunday, September 7, 2014 – Five Steele wines, presented by Mr. Steele, will be paired to the coursed dinner in the Lodge dining room. Fee for participation in the tastings.

COWBOY POETRY AND MUSIC/COWBOY FAST DRAW

LOCATION: Corner of Wall Street and Ace of Diamonds (behind Rock Garage)

The Sawtooth Mountain Mamas are celebrating Idaho’s Western heritage with the third annual weekend of the Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering.  A new addition to this weekend of events is the Cowboy Fast Draw.  Curley Calhoune will host a competition with his club, the Sawtooth Shootist Society on September 6thand 7th.  He will also host a free of charge Town Folk Alley, where the general public will have a chance to try Cowboy Fast Draw, conducted in a safe manner, according to Cowboy Fast Draw Association rules and regulations.  Everyone is encouraged to dress in their western attire.  The Cowboy Poetry and Music and the Cowboy Fast Draw will alternate throughout the day, with evening performances on Friday and Saturday.
