Family Fun in Snowy Stanley

event

It’s easy to look at the winter season and just want to stay inside. It’s easy to drink hot tea as your kids play on the carpet in front of you, or as they bundle up to head outside for an hour or two. Are you trying to think of what else to do for the winter? Well, hopefully we can give you some answers today! Here are some awesome ideas for you and your family right here in Stanley, Idaho. At the end of this blog, you will find the 2018 Business Directory for our town. That will show you all the lodging, restaurants, and more that are available to you for your winter adventure.

Think about it, a weekend getaway with the family to one of your favorite places. So, pack the snow pants, the extra layers, and some gloves, because now is your time!

Finding a place to stay is your first priority. Mountain Village Resort, Lower Stanley Country Store, and Redfish Riverside Inn are a few of your lodging choices. Mountain Village offers the amenity of having the Restaurant right there for convenience, and you can sign up to use their natural hot spring, a kid favorite. Lower Stanley Country Store and Cabins provides a quieter time, where you can get motel rooms or full cabins for your family. Redfish Riverside Inn provides a beautiful riverside view in most of their rooms, where you may even be able to spot some wildlife!

After we figure out lodging, now we need to know what to plan! This can vary depending on what our snow levels are, what events are happening, and how many people are here at the same time. We have amazing events planned for you this winter, and they’re all coming up soon! January 26-28 is the Sawtooth Outdoor Bonspiel, an event catered to curling teams around Idaho, but a great event to watch with the family. There is also a free “Learn to Curl” lesson on Saturday if any of you want to try it out for yourself. More information can be found on our webpage, or on our Facebook event page at https://www.facebook.com/events/306572129863462/ .

Later in the winter, from February 9-11, is the 9th annual Stanley Winterfest! Winterfest is a three day event with so many activities for all ages of the family. Do your children enjoy watching planes? Perfect! The Skiplane Fly-in is fun to watch, as planes land on the snowy airstrip. You can even go up and look at some of these planes later! The Ice Skating rink, which is open almost all winter, is also available during Winterfest, and it is free! More information can be found at the Stanley Winterfest webpage at https://www.stanleywinterfest.com/ .

When planning these events, it’s always important to stay warm, too. So don’t be afraid to step inside any of our restaurants in town and grab something warm to eat or drink. Pizza right out of the oven, hot steaks cooked to perfection, some Thai influence to add some spice to the day, and hot chocolate and teas can be found in many of our restaurants here in town. Kid’s are welcome in all restaurants, so stop on in and check out the menus!

If you don’t come up for any of our events, don’t worry, there is still plenty for you and your family to enjoy while staying with us. Like I said earlier, the Ice Skating Rink is open to the public, and you can go enjoy skating with the beautiful scenery right behind you. Hot springs in the winter time are always a good option, as well. The Stanley Library also hosts events throughout the winter, such as Coloring Night, Game Night, and much more. Give them a call to learn their winter schedule. Walking through the park is another great, simple activity for the family.
