'Tis the Season: searching for that perfect Stanley Christmas tree

Going out in search of that perfect Christmas tree is one of my favorite traditions.  It's a perfect opportunity to spend time together, whether you're goofing off with friends or taking the kids out for their first time.  The quietness of snow seems to invite a more thoughtful experience when walking through the forest.  Coming up on the end of the year I find myself thinking about the places I've been and people I've met along the way.  Grateful for the opportunities we all share as public land owners.

Reflecting on another year in these woods I'm reminded of that secret morel spot I stumbled upon this Spring then soon after jumping into chilly Alpine lakes, I saw my first wolf up close while taking a nap under a tree elk hunting in the Fall, and soon we will be capping off the year quite literally with a star on top of the Christmas tree.  Whether it's coming up for a tree this year or hiking in the Summer, I encourage everyone to make some time to enjoy the Sawtooths.  We are truly fortunate to have access to these wild spaces, I hope you cherish them as much as I do.

There’s something about playing in the snow that brings out the kid in all of us.  From the Stanley-Sawtooth Chamber of Commerce, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!  Enjoy your time with friends and family this season and we look forward to seeing you in the Sawtooths soon.

Looking to make it a weekend?  Join us this Friday for the Annual Stanley Tree Lighting Celebration in the Stanley Town Square at 5:00pm, follow by the Season Opener put on by the Sawtooth Ski Club hosted at the Sawtooth Hotel.  Drinks, food, and libations.  All are welcome!.  LIVE MUSIC by Innocent Man at Velvet Falls Dance Hall at 9:30pm.  Oh, and did we mention that Santa will be at the Library at 4:00pm on Friday too!  Hope you've been good this year.

If you find yourself in need of a tree this year you can pick up a permit from these Forest Service ranger stations or locally at the Lower Stanley Country Store.
